Professional Development

Our professional development programme enables musicians and music leaders at the start of their careers to make their first steps in exploring work within learning and community settings.

Our year-round Trainee Music Leaders scheme allows three trainees to develop practice first-hand as they take full part in the planning and delivery of our Learning & Participation projects. Trainees also receive mentorship from an experienced workshop leader and observe practitioners in action at other leading arts organisations and are networked into the wider education sector.

In addition to our year-round training programme, our Skills Lab offers three days of practical seminar sessions to 20 music leaders led by lead mentor James Redwood and guest speakers. Past Skills Lab days have offered the chance to develop skills in leadership styles, tool-box activities, working with vulnerable adults and song-writing.

Many of our trainees have gone on to successful careers within the music sector as supporting musicians and workshop leaders, working with organisations including the Wigmore Hall, Glyndebourne, London Music Masters, the Roundhouse, Serious, English Touring Opera, Royal Academy of Music, LSO, RPO and Southbank Sinfonia

Our 2016-17 Trainee Music Leaders are: Patrick Barrett, Rosie Bergonzi and Joe Steele.

Applications have now closed for 2017/18.
