Earlier this year, as part of our Open Call initiative, we challenged Ailís Ní Ríain, Timothy Cape, and Jackie Walduck to make performances that responded to some of the big issues in the 21st century, whilst helping them develop their artistic practice and explore new ways of working.

Ailís’ project, I used to feel, explores experiences of deafness resulting in a mini, music-theatre ‘scenario’ in a hotel room with live music, performative sign-language, story-telling and projection. Investigating sensory withdrawal and questioning the essence of communication and what contributes to its breakdown when you experience sensory impairment. Is music, without context, capable of expressing anything at all?

We’ll be asking you for your feedback on what you see and hear directly after the event to help shape the development of the piece.
