In partnership with the City of London Sinfonia we’re excited to reveal the line-up for our 2014-15 CLoSer series of informal concerts in one of East London’s newest venues: Village Underground. On 21 October City of London Sinfonia’s Shakespeare series continues with The Entertainmentsincluding Shostakovich’s outrageous re-working of Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Korngold’s music for Much Ado About Nothing from 1920.
Join us on 27 February at 7.30pm for To and From Buenos Aries to explore the music of tango through the compositions of Golijov & Piazzolla and their take on tango’s sultry, melancholic rhythms and dance. On 29 April Ljova brings his exciting and haunting music to East London, a modern-day tale of immigration from Russia to the USA, Ljova’s musician parents moved from Moscow to New York as communism fell in 1990. The result is a unique musical voice that combines classical music with his own blend of Russian folk music, jazz, Balkan Gypsy and Klezmer.
