Last Saturday (10 May) the Spitalfields Music team along with supporters, friends, and family took to the streets of Tower Hamlets on a 25km sponsored walk, to celebrate 25 years of our Learning & Participation programme and to raise money to help us continue our work.
After a short warm-up from music leader Julian West, 36 people (including our youngest ‘walker’ – 3 month-old Ava), headed off through Spitalfields and Whitechapel, around the Isle of Dogs (with a short stop at Island Gardens), up to the Olympic Park and back to Spitalfields Market via Victoria Park and Bethnal Green, finishing after six hours, and with a few sore and blistered feet, with some well-deserved refreshments at Leon in Spitalfields Market.
Thanks to our walkers, we have raised over £13,500, smashing our original target of £10,000!
A huge thank you to everyone who donated towards the walk – your generosity will help us continue our year-round work, delivering inspiring creative learning projects across Tower Hamlets.
If you would like to make a donation towards the 25km for 25 years, you can still give via ourJustGiving page.
