Gabrieli Consort & Players
Paul McCreesh conductor
‘Little’ Ave Maria
Benedicta es caelorum
Willaert Ave virgo sponsa Dei
Taking Stravinsky’s great mass setting for voices and wind instruments within as a centre point, the Gabrieli Consort & Players explore this singular work alongside motets by Willaert, Josquin and other renaissance composers. Their programme is inspired by Stravinsky’s lifelong interest in early polyphony and explores works composed across 500 years.
Stepping inside the restored majesty of Nicholas Hawksmoor’s Christ Church, Spitalfields, the spirit soars high enough. It soars even more if Paul McCreesh’s Gabrieli Consort & Players are inside.
